The
true intentions of the Sangrur based committee heading
the construction of Sri Harmandir Sahib replica have now
come to light after the recent mandate was passed from
Akal Takht Sahib to modify the controversial design.
The Akal Takht Sahib had passed a hukamnama putting a
ban on further construction of the replica until its
pool was filled up entirely and the four domes were
destroyed, however the local congregation attached to
Saadh Balwant Sehora has openly announced to counter the
implementation of the hukamnama.
Close to a thousand followers of Sehora Saadh held a
protest outside the replica to give a clear indication
of their objection to the demolition. The protestors,
many armed with sticks and other weapons, alleged that
they stand united to stop the demolition process. The
protestors claimed that they would safeguard the temple
until the Akal Takht Sahib hukam is withdrawn.
The stance taken by Sangrur based followers of Sehora
Saadh does not come as a surprise because the
construction of the temple was always seen as a step to
replicate the Harmandir Sahib. However, the recent
protest had brought out the fact that deras of today do
not have any allegiance to Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sri
Akal Takht Sahib.
The decision by Sri Akal Takht Sahib
to fill the pool at Sangrur based Darbar Sahib replica
was taken after bringing majority of Panthic bodies into
confidence. This decision was in fact long awaited,
however, due to false propaganda of these deras, the
local residents are now openly opposing the Takht's
edict.
According to the protestors, the decision to defend the
Sangrur temple has come directly from the management
committee, and they are willing to die for the ‘honor’
of the temple. While being questioned by the press, the
protestors shared the common view that their Darbar
Sahib is higher than any Akal Takht and they won’t back
down until the hukamnama is overturned.
The Harmandir Sahib look alike that has been under
construction in the Malwa region has once again become
the center of controversy. In the past, Sikhs had filed
complaints against the project at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Now that the construction work is almost finished, the
matter has finally received the due attention of SGPC
leadership, despite the fact that in 1996 a HukamNama
from Sri Takht Sahib was issued in relation to this
controversy.
